• The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the following set of approvals. The important Cabinet Approvals are given as follows-
  1. Financial assistance to sugar mills for clearing cane dues of farmers: the approval has been given to provide financial assistance @ of Rs. 5.50 per quintal of cane crushed in sugar season 2017-18 to sugar mills to offset the cost of cane, in order to help sugar mills to clear cane dues of farmers.
  2. Restructuring of Multi-sectoral Development Programme for its continuation during the remaining period of 14th Finance Commission as Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram.
  3. Continuation of Umbrella Scheme ‘Green Revolution - Krishonnati Yojana’ in Agriculture Sector:
    The approval has been given in agriculture sector beyond 12th Five Year Plan for the period from 2017-18 to 2019-20 with the Central Share of Rs. 33,269.976 crore. 
  4.  Accession to the Protocol under WHO Framework Convention on tobacco control to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products.
  5. Doubling of Investment Limit for Senior Citizens from Rs. 7.5 lakh to Rs.15 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Vaya VandanYojana (PMVVY) - Enables upto Rs. 10000 Pension/month for Senior Citizens.
  6. Mutual Recognition Agreement between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

  •  The Union Cabinet has given the approval to accede to the Protocol under World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on tobacco control to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products.t will be applicable to both smoking and chewing or smokeless tobacco (SLT) forms as negotiated and adopted under Article 15 of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).
  • The 11th Executive Committee meeting of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) recently approved the project encompassing the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for Namami Gange programme with a total budget of Rs 86.84 crore. The National Mission for Clean Ganga also approved the project to strengthen the State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) of five main stem Ganga basin states, namely, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The project was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 85.97 for 5 years.
  •  The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC) in New Delhi for Central Assistance to the States/ UT of Assam(affected by floods during 2017-18), Himachal Pradesh (affected by floods/ landslides during 2017-18), Sikkim (affected by floods/ landslides during 2017-18), Lakshadweep (affected by cyclone Ockhi during 2017) and Rajasthan (affected by Kharif drought during 2017). The HLC approved assistance of Rs 480.87 crore in respect of state of Assam. The HLC also approved assistance from NDRF amounting to Rs 84.60 crore for the state of Himachal Pradesh, Rs 67.40 crore for the state of Sikkim, Rs 2.16 crore for the UT of Lakshadweep and Rs 526.14 crore for the state of Rajasthan.  The total assistance approved was Rs 1,161.17 crores.

  12. Strengthening the mechanism for resolution of commercial disputes of Central Public Sector Enterprises.
  13.  National Policy on Biofuels - 2018.
  14. Development of Trunk Infrastructure Components for Integrated Multi-Modal Logistics Hub known as "Freight Village" at Nangal Chaudhary in Haryana under Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project.
  15. Corpus for Micro Irrigation Fund with NABARD under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
  16.  Enhancement of budget for implementation of Network for Spectrum for Defence Services.
  17.  Cabinet approves setting up of a new AIIMS in Deoghar, Jharkhand.

  • The Himachal Pradesh government will spend 25 crore rupees on renovating and developing the historic British Raj 'Bantony Castle Estate as a major tourist attraction.
