  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the following set of approvals. The important Cabinet Approvals are given as follows-

    The Cabinet has approved- 

  1. Transfer of land of M/s. Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) to Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA)
  2.  MoU between India and Brunei Darussalam on Cooperation in the operation of Telemetry Tracking and Telecommand station for satellite and launch vehicles, and for cooperation in the field of Space Research, Science and Applications,
  3.  MoU on Collaborative Research on Distributed Ledger and Block Chain Technology in the context of Development of digital economy by Exim Bank under BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism,
  4. MoU between India and South Africa on cooperation in the exploration and uses of outer space for peaceful purposes,
  5.  MoU between India and Egypt on cooperation in the field of Agriculture & allied sectors,
  6. Signing of MoU between India and Malta for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism,
  7. Policy Framework to Promote and Incentivize Enhanced Recovery Methods for Oil and Gas,
  8. New Umbrella Scheme “Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan” (PM-AASHA),
  9. Amendment to National Institute of Design (NID) Act, 2014.  
  • The Union Cabinet approved new Umbrella Scheme 'Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan, PM-AASHA.  The Scheme is aimed at ensuring remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce as announced in the Union Budget for 2018 the announcement was made by the Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi. The Cabinet has decided to give additional government guarantee of Rs.16,550 crore making it Rs. 45,550 crore in total. The new Umbrella Scheme includes the mechanism of ensuring remunerative prices to the farmers and is comprised of: 1. Price Support Scheme (PSS), 2. Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), and 3. Pilot of Private Procurement and Stockist Scheme (PPPS).

    The Cabinet has approved- 

    1. Equity infusion of RCF in Talcher Fertilizers Ltd.: approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers for equity investment of Rs.1033.54 crore of the total project cost for setting up a Coal Gasification based fertilizer project in Talcher Fertilizer Ltd. (TFL) by Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (RCF).
    2. Indore (Mangaliyagaon) — Budni New Line (205.5 Km) with Electrification. Total estimated cost of this project is Rs. 3261.82 crore. 
    3. Revised Cost Estimate of Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project: Approved the Revised Cost Estimate of Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) at the revised cost of Rs 3466 crore with the financial assistance of the World Bank to improve safety and operational performance of 198 Dams. 
    4. ASHA Benefit Package: The package entails an expenditure (Central funding) to Rs.1224.97 crore for two years

  • The Union Cabinet has approved an ordinance making triple talaq a punishable offence. The Supreme Court had in a verdict in August last year declared it illegal and unconstitutional. It was cleared by the Lok Sabha but was stuck in the Rajya Sabha. Though the ordinance has been cleared, for now, it must be placed before the Parliament and the bill would still need to be passed. 
  • The cabinet has approved the new telecom policy, now named National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP) 2018, which aims to attract USD 100 billion investment and create 4 million jobs in the sector by 2022.  According to the draft of the policy, NDCP is focused on increasing high-speed broadband penetration, with use of modern technologies like 5G and optical fibres across the country at affordable rates.

  5. MoU between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK),
  6.  Agreement between India and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied sectors,
  7.  MoU between India and Uzbekistan on cooperation in pharmaceutical sector,
  8.  MoU between NITI Aayog, and Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation (MEDRF) in the field of social, economic, industrial and regional development programs,
  9. Apprised of the MoU between India and South Korea for enhancing cooperation in Applied Science and Industrial Technology,
  10. Financial assistance worth Rs.825 Crore for relining of Sirhind Feeder Canal and relining of Rajasthan Feeder Canal,
  11. Agreement between India and Uzbekistan on cooperation in health and medical science,
  12. Increasing of Government ownership in Goods and Services Tax Network and change in the existing structure with transitional plan,
