  • Vice-Admiral M.P. Awati (retd.), who commanded a naval unit of the Eastern Fleet in the 1971 India-Pakistan war and whose actions led to the destruction of an enemy submarine, passed away.
  • Veteran theatre and Marathi film actor Lalan Sarang had passed away in Pune where she was hospitalized for a month for multiple ailments. Sarang was 79 years old.
  • Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, and Chemicals and Fertilizers H.N. Ananth Kumar, also a senior BJP leader from the State passed away in Bengaluru. He was 59.
  • American comic-book writer and Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee passed away aged 95. 
  • Dr. TS Kanakathe continent’s first woman neurosurgeon, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 86. She was the third woman neurosurgeon in the whole world.
  • Padma Shri awardee and revered saint Narayan Das Maharaj of Triveni dham near Jaipur passed away.
  • The Oscar-winning screenwriter and best-selling author William Goldman, known for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "All The President's Men", passes away. He was 87.
  • Former Indian hockey player, Sandeep Michael, who captained the Indian junior team to a gold at the Asia Cup 2003, died at the age of 33 after battling an unspecified neurological problem.
  • Classical music stalwart Ustad Imrat Khan, who dedicated his life to propagating the Sitarand the surbahar worldwide, has died in the US after a brief illness. He was 83.
  • Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci, who won Oscars with “The Last Emperor” and whose erotic drama “Last Tango in Paris” enthralled and shocked the world, has passed away
  • Singer Mohammed Aziz has passed away aged 64 following a cardiac arrest in Mumbai. 
  • Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, has passed away at the age of 57. He was also honoured with a special Emmy "for his contribution and impact made in the animation field and within the broadcast industry" in early 2018.
