• The Election Commission of India will host the 4th General Assembly of Association of World Election Bodies at Bengaluru. India will also take over as A-WEB’s Chair for the 2019-21 term. The Election Commission will also host International Conference on “Initiatives and Challenges of Social Media and Information Technology in Elections“.
  • A new book named “A Short History of Indian Railways“, has been penned by veteran journalist and author Rajendra B Aklekar. 
  • Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the 5th edition of the aquaculture event, Aqua Aquaria India, in Hyderabad.The theme for this year’s event is ‘Taking Blue Revolution to India’s Hinterland’. This event organised for encouraging diversification and intensification of aquaculture in a sustainable manner.
  • The 14th Conference of Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification begins in Greater Noida.During the event, India also assumed the presidency of COP for two years and Union Minister for environment took up the role of President of COP.
  • Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh co-chaired the Japan–India Defence Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan.The dialogue discussed ways to further strengthen the existing bilateral co-operative arrangements and adopt new initiatives towards achieving peace and security in the region.
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the 72nd Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia held in New Delhi. The committee is the highest decision making and governing body of WHO in the region.
  •  The book, “India’s Lost Frontier the Story of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan”, has been penned by veteran civil servant Raghvendra Singh. This book on the history of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, earlier known as the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).
  •  The High Commissions of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji jointly organised a cultural event ‘Namaste Pacific’ held in Delhi, India.
  • A joint India- New Development Bank workshop was held in New Delhi. The workshop was organized to enhance the NDB’s engagement with the India’s private and public sector. The NDB is aiming to support the Indian public and private sector for infrastructure development through innovative means such as loans in a local currency, guarantees, credit enhancement and equity investments.
  • Central Bureau of Investigation’s 1st National Conference on Cyber Crime Investigation and Cyber Forensics inaugurated in New Delhi.
  • 5th Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok, Russia. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated as the Chief Guest at the Eastern Economic Forum. During the plenary session,PM launched the “Act Far East” policy for Russia. He also announced a $1 Billion line of credit to Russia for the development of the resource-rich region.

  • The 1st conference on military medicine for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states will be held in Delhi. It will be conducted by the Indian Armed Forces with the aim to share best practices in the field of military medicine, build capacities and overcome a common challenge.

  • International Literacy Day celebrated annually on 8 September. It is an opportunity for Governments, civil society and stakeholders to highlight improvements in world literacy rates, and reflect on the world’s remaining literacy challenges.The Theme  is Literacy and Multilingualism.
  •  The Ministry of Civil Aviation organised India’s first-ever helicopter summit in Dehradun. The Indian Air Force was invited at the summit to talk on the “role of IAF helicopters in MEDEVAC (Medical evacuation) at the national level. 
  •  The 6th India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue was held in New Delhi. The Dialogue comprised of round table meetings of Joint Working Groups on infrastructure, energy, high-tech, resource conservation and policy coordination followed by technical site visits and closed-door G2G meetings.
  • The 22nd Session of UN Committee on Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities was held at Geneva. The UN Committee on CRPD took up India’s First Country Report for consideration during the session. India ratified this Convention on 01-10-2007 in pursuance of Article 35 of the Convention.
  • The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) observes World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) on 10 September every year. WHO has been co-sponsor of the day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented. 
  • International conference ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat) for Energy Efficiency in the Building Sector is being organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in New Delhi.
  • The 24th World Energy Congress commence in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.World Energy Congress aims to bring together international energy stakeholders, including governments, private and state corporations, academia and media.   • A book titled “Savarkar: Echoes from a forgotten past, 1883-1924″ is penned by Bengaluru-based historian Vikram Sampath and published by Penguin. This book describing the life of freedom fighter and Philosopher Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar.
  • Bureau of Police research and development will organize the National Conference on “Criminal Activities and Radicalization in Jails: Vulnerability of Inmates and Jail Staff and their Protection” in New Delhi. The conference aims to provide a platform for the prison personnel of all ranks at the national level to share their candid views on various operational as well as administrative issues. The conference will focus on the following issues:
  1. To understand various criminal activities at individual and gang level and considers safety measures for vulnerable inmates and jail staff.
  2. To understand various facets of radicalization in prison and suggest measures for counter radicalization.
  3. To analyse and formulate the security and protection standards for prison staff.
  4. To provide an interdisciplinary platform for correctional personnel to exchange and share their experience on prison reforms.

  • The World Health Organization observes World Rabies Day on 28 September every year. The day is celebrated annually to raise awareness about rabies prevention and to highlight progress in defeating this horrifying disease.

It is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.
  • World Heart Day (WHD) was observed annually on 29 September across the world. The day which is celebrated annually creates awareness of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) including heart disease & stroke and highlights the preventive and control measures. The theme for the World Heart Day 2019 is My Heart, Your Heart”.
