• Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is organising a “Multi Media Exhibition” at World War II museum, Kisama in Nagaland. It has been organised to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event aims to present Gandhian values and principles both to the people and through the people in contemporary idiom.

  • World AIDS Day, designated on 01st December every year. World AIDS Day is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. The theme is Communities make the difference”.
  • The United Nations observes International Day for the Abolition of Slavery on 2nd of December every year. The day focuses on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.
  • Minister of State for Human Resource Development Sanjay Dhotre inaugurated the India Pavilion at International Book Fair in Guadaljara, MexicoIndia is the ‘Guest of Honour Country’ in book fair and becomes the first Asian country to participate as ‘Guest of Honour’ in the Fair. This fair is the biggest book fair in the Spanish-speaking world.

  • The Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) was organised in Dhaka, Bangladesh.The theme is migration and its various aspects”. It was organised by the International Organisation of Migrants (IOM) and Dhaka University Film Society with the support of the European Union.
  • The 20th Edition of Hornbill Festival began with a colourful blend of culture and tradition with a modern twist at Naga Heritage Kisama in Nagaland.
  • Donyi Polo Cultural & Charitable Trust and Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated ‘Indigenous Faith Day’ on 1st December. The celebrations were held at Pasighat with religious fervour.
  • Defence Minister addresses the Armed Forces Flag Day-CSR Conclave in New Delhi. He said common people had generously contributed to ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ Fund for the bereaved families of soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed on the 3rd of December every year. The theme  is – Promoting the Participation of Persons with Disabilities and their leadership: Taking Action on the 2030 Development Agenda.
  • Navy Day is being celebrated in India on 4th December. The day is celebrated in honour of the maritime force’s role during the war with Pakistan in 1971 when Indian warships attacked Karachi port and successfully hurt Pakistani operations in the western coast.
  • Chief of the Air Staff of India is participating in the Pacific Air Chiefs’ Symposium 2019 (PACS 2019) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The theme for this year’s symposium is ‘A Collaborative Approach to Regional Security’.
  • The International Volunteer Day (IVD) is observed across the world on 5 December every year. This year theme is Volunteer for an inclusive future”.
  • World Soil Day is celebrated annually on the 5th of December at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. This year, by addressing the increasing challenges of soil management, the FAO campaign “Stop soil erosion, Save our future” aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being.
  • The United Kingdom(UK) hosted two days organised 2019 NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Summit in London.  It was attended by NATO leaders and chaired by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
  • The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and IIT Gandhinagar and Kharagpur, have joined hands to develop Gandhipedia, an online repository of books, letters and speeches written by Mahatma Gandhi, to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary. The entire project will be done with the help of AI.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the 54th DGsP/IGsP Conference held in Pune. The Prime Minister addressed the valedictory session of the Conference.
  • The United Nations General Assembly established 9 December as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the Genocide Convention and its role in combating and preventing the crime of genocide, as defined in the Convention, and to commemorate and honour its victims.
  • The United Nations’ (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on 9 December. The day aims to raise public awareness of corruption and what people can do to fight it.

  • Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.  This day is observed every year across the world, as it empowers us all. The day also acknowledges the advocates and defenders of human rights around the world.  The theme “Youth Standing Up for Human Rights”.
  • The external affairs ministry is organising the 6th Indian Ocean Dialogue and Delhi Dialogue XI in New Delhi during December 13-14. For the first time, these two events will be held consecutively. The theme for the Indian Ocean Dialogue is “Indo-Pacific: Re-imagining the Indian Ocean through an Expanded Geography”, while the theme for the Delhi Dialogue is “Advancing Partnership in Indo-Pacific”.
  • International Mountain Day is held every year on 11 December globallyThis day was established by the UN General Assembly in 2003 to encourage sustainable development in mountains. The theme for 2019 IMD is Mountains Matter for Youth”.
  • Switzerland will be the country partner at the 17th edition of BioAsia2020 scheduled to be held from February 17-19, 2020 with the theme Today For Tomorrow in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • International Day of Neutrality is a United Nations observance held on December 12 each year. It was officially declared by a UN General Assembly resolution adopted in February 2017 and first observed on December 12 of the same year.
  • International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day) is celebrated globally on 12 December. International Universal Health Coverage Day aims to raise awareness of the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners. The theme  is Keep the promise”.
  • National Tribal Dance Festival will be held in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur from December 27 to 29.
  • The  ‘International Seminar on Climate Smart Farming Systems’ for BIMSTEC countries began in New Delhi. The objective  is to have experience sharing to enable improvement of tropical smallholder farming systems for greater productivity and resilience to climate change through ecological approaches.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament for the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.

  • India celebrates the National Energy Conservation Day every year on 14th December to recognise and celebrate the efforts towards energy conservation.The day highlights the importance of energy conservation in Country’s sustainable development approach.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the first meeting of the National Ganga Council. The meeting was held in KanpurUttar Pradesh. The first meeting of the Council aimed at reinforcing the importance of a ‘Ganga-centric’ approach in all departments of the concerned states as well as relevant Central Ministries.
  • The World Design Organization is all set to launch its new global programme World Design Protopolis in Bengaluru. It is aimed at implementing holistic progress in megacities across the world and thus making them sustainable.   • Social Justice and Empowerment Minister launched the Braille version of the book “Exam Warriors” written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The braille version in English and Hindi has been printed by Rajasthan Netraheen Kalyan Sangh in Jaipur.
