  • The 11th edition of the biennial mega defence exhibition, DefExpo 2020, will begin on 5 February at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The main theme of DefExpo India-2020 will be “India: the emerging defence manufacturing hub”.
  • World Cancer Day is being observed globally on 4th February. The Day aims to create awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The theme is. ‘I Am and I Will’ campaign. 
  • India’s biggest rural technical festival titled ‘Antahpragnya 2020’ held in Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basar, Nirmal District, Telangana. The theme for the year 2020 was “Spot and encourage rural tech innovators”.
  • India hosted the Ministerial-level Defence dialogue between India and South Korea in New Delhi. 
  • World Wetlands Day is annually celebrated globally on 2nd of February. The day aims to raise the awareness about the crucial role played by wetlands for people and our planet. The theme  is “Wetlands and Biodiversity”.
  • International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female is observed globally on 6 February. This day is sponsored by the United Nations for their efforts to eradicate female genital mutilation. 2020 Theme: Unleashing Youth Power.
  • The “Central Asia Business Council” was launched in New Delhi. The event was organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and addressed by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. 
  • Lucknow hosted the 5th India-Russia Military Industrial Conference. The India-Russia Military Industrial Conference was attended by over 100 Russian and over 200 Indian industry leaders. The conference was held on the sidelines of the Defence Expo 2020 taking place in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

  • The Vice President of India Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu released a book titled ‘A Child of Destiny’ an autobiography penned by Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao. K. Ramakrishna Rao was an Eminent Scholar, Author, Researcher, Scientist and Gandhian, He was born in the coastal region in Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

  • India celebrates Sarojini Naidu’s birthday as National Women’s Day every year on February 13. This year Nation celebrates its 141st Birth Anniversary. She was born on February 13, 1879. She was famous for her nickname ‘Nightingale of India’ or ‘Bharat Kokila’ because of her poems.

  • The 3rd edition of the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety will be held in Stockholm, Sweden on February 19-20, 2020. The Third Global Ministerial Conference (Ministerial Conference) aims to reach high-level consensus for continued global road safety targets and collaboration up to 2030. The theme of the two-day conference is Achieving Global Goals 2030.
  • The annual All India Conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) was held in New Delhi.
  • The Indian Pavilion at 70th Berlin International Film Festival will be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in Germany. As a welcome gesture, the Government of India is hosting an event named as ‘Namaste Trump’ at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and is expected to be similar to the ‘Howdy Modi’ event which was held last year in Houston, US.

  • A 3-day international conference on Ensemble Methods in Modelling and Data Assimilation (EMMDA) was organized by National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.The conference will be held with the following major themes:

  • Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is working on a project of connecting about 3,000 kilometre-long power grid from Myanmar-Thailand to India.
